Air controlled differential lockers - what are they and why fit them?

Locking the differential enables drive to maintained whatever terrain conditions your vehicle encounters: mud, snow, slippery ground, but also when an individual wheel loses grip driving over a hole.

With one wheel completely off the ground it will be spinning in thin air and the action of the differential means that the other wheel will remain static even though it has ground contact and good adhesion.

Locking the differential cancels this differential action and therefore enables drive to be maintained through to the wheel that has ground contact and adhesion.

An electro-pneumatic powered, open differential system offering on demand locking. Requires a compressor to be installed.

Advantages: based on the ARB style system it operates very well and also offers a degree of flexibility and ease of use not found in American positive lockers such as the Detroit Locker.

Important: careful installation is required to avoid leaks which could entail the compressor working constantly.
