Fitting Ora brand - manual free wheeling hubs to a Patrol Y61
(Patrol-GR.net partner article)
Used on front axles these offer smoother driving, lower noise and vibration levels plus improved fuel economy. These manual free wheeling hubs will cut your fuel costs and minimize front tyre wear or simply serve as low cost replacements for defective automatic hubs.
The automatic hubs to be replaced
The Ora brand - manual free wheeling hubs bought from our partner Euro4x4Parts.com.
Start off by setting the hubs to LOCK, and then remove the automatic hub using an Allen key.
With all six bolts undone, pull off the automatic hub.
Position the gasket on the hub and add some grease.
Position the hub together with the joint before tightening the 6 bolts
Tighten well (but don't over tighten) the 6 bolts using an Allen key.
With this kind of Allen key there's no need to remove the head of the hub because you can tighten at a slight angle.
If you haven't got an Allen key like in the photo above, you will need to remove the head of the hub and then refit.
Job done - now it's really easy to swap between 4x2 or 4x4!
You can either leave them like these or refit the original hub covers which fit perfectly.
