DIFFICULTY
To give you an idea of the degree of difficulty in our tutorials we give them a note of 1 (easy) to 5. This is a level 2 job.
HOW TO
With the vehicle on axle stands or up on the ramp, the first step is to remove the wheel to give easy access to the idler arm.
Apply penetrating oil to the three bolts.
Use the ball joint extractor to separate the ball joint from the steering idler arm.
Now undo the 3 bolts to remove the idler arm. In the photo we are using an air gun but this can be done easily with a 17mm socket wrench
New idler arm ready to be fitted
Fitting is very straightforward. First of all, bolt the arm to the chassis rail then refit the ball joint.
When fitted grease the steering idler arm.
Refit the wheel and then job done!
