What is an accelerator potentiometer?

Also called the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor

It measures the pressure exerted by the driver on the accelerator pedal in order to adapt the speed of the vehicle accordingly.

Note: for older vehicles, the connection is made via a mechanical accelerator cable.

Malfunction Symptoms

When your accelerator pedal potentiometer is faulty, the engine idling speed may be incorrect and the vehicle will not respond correctly.

There will most certainly be an engine failure light that will illuminate on your vehicle's dashboard.
