Lewie and the Rover

Patrick (31): Main driver, drone pilot and pastry lover.

• By day: He runs his own physiotherapy clinic specialising in neurological rehabilitation.

• By night: He dreams of the next 4x4 adventure.

• Positive characteristics: Very passionate about everything he does, not afraid to take risks, and takes great drone shots.

• Less positive characteristics: can get really grumpy when not fed on time.

Orla (29): navigator, amateur photographer, and chocolate lover.

• By day: works as a business analyst in a digital agency.

• By night: loves listening to research journalism podcasts and snuggling with Lewie.

• Positive characteristics: always thinks twice, driving skills for the tricky parts so Patrick can fly the drone, and staying optimistic when things don't go as planned.

• Less positive characteristics: she nibbles food and then puts them back where she found them.

Lewie (1.5 years old): Entertainer and foodie.

• By day: he holds down the fort and takes naps on the sofa.

• At night: plays, fights and cuddles

• Positive characteristics: always happy, willing to do anything for food, likes going on long walks.

• Less positive characteristics: pulls on the leash and eats Patrick's shoes when he gets the chance.

The couple bought their Defender 90 in 2022, not knowing if it was the best option for 4x4 travel, but they fell in love with it. After a few trips, they liked it so much that they decided to keep it instead of buying a bigger one. Many people asked them: why not go for a 110? They thought about it, but for now, they will continue to travel in their 90.

The Defender dates from 2004 and was completely rebuilt in 2018. The engine was replaced by a  bigger turbo 210HP engine. It's been completely soundproofed and has a new interior and exterior which has improved the comfort.

EXTERIOR

For their trip, they installed a Frontrunner roof tent on a roof rack. They have a Snorkel Safari to prevent dust and sand from getting into the engine. The vehicle is also equipped with a shower, an awning and a BBQ. The LED lights are new too, with a bar installed under the roof rack.

INTERIOR

They have built a kitchen with a camping gas cooker and a barbecue. A GoalZero provides electricity for several days. Lewie also sleeps in the back of the car. He has his own travel box.
