Here's our step-by-step guide to save money by replacing your cabin filter yourself.

Why change this filter? Also known as the pollen filter, it is designed to purify the air inside the vehicle by filtering the outside air which often contains allergens and polluting substances. The cabin filter ensures you breathe clean air. Just like all the filters in your 4x4, the pollen filter tends to get dirty over time, becomes less efficient and restricts the passage of air into the cabin. When this happens it becomes difficult to heat or cool the interior, demist the windows, chase out bad smells etc. A completely clogged filter can even damage the blower motor which could lead to expensive repairs.

For this article, we're using a Nissan Patrol Y61 as an example.  The number of filters and their position might vary but the procedure is basically the same for most 4x4 models.
