The Baja Portalegre 500 was the idea of José Megre an ex Paris Dakar driver. The first edition took place in June 1987 and it was the first off-roading competition organized in Portugal.
The event is held every year in Portalegre (in the West central region of Alentejo).
This fabulous event attracts the top 4x4 and bike competitors every year.

Manuel and Ricardo Porém, in their Mini All4 Racing won the 28th edition of the Baja Portalegre 500, as well as Champions of Portugal. Nasser Al-Attiyah and Mathieu Baumel in their Ford HRX, took second place on the podium and Gustavo Gugelmin and Reinaldo Varela finished third. This year's Baja Portalegre 500 was superb!
