As vehicle design progresses, the humble windscreen wiper has a tricky job to handle. Windscreens have become more and more curved and bigger and bigger. As well as the increase in length, the wiper must follow a curved three-dimensional shape, while maintaining sufficient pressure across the entire blade. The first-generation Flat Blade wiper blade marked a major milestone by incorporating a continuous frame into the wiper blade. This frame allowed the pressure to be spread over its entire length. The older style wipers had multiple articulated brackets to spread the pressure. The second-generation Flat Blade improves all the characteristics of the wiper blade: more aerodynamic, more compact, lighter and less sensitive to the accumulation of snow.
