Has your 4x4 been stationary for several weeks?

Take the opportunity to check the condition of your brakes before getting back on the road after this long period of immobilisation.

BRAKE PADS

The brake pads on your vehicle should usually be checked every 20,000 to 25,000 km, depending on use.

The safest way to check brake pads is to measure their thickness after removing them. You can then compare them to the  manufacturer's specifications.

In most cases, a visual check can be carried out by simply removing the wheels.

BRAKE DISCS

The brake discs should be changed on average every 50,000 km.

The easiest way is to check them when you change your brake pads to see how worn they are.

They should also be changed when the minimum wear thickness is reached, or when an anomaly such as a scratch, crack, warp or break is detected.

BRAKE FLUID

It's important to check your 4x4's brake fluid level regularly.

If the brake fluid level is low, it means that your brake pads are worn. In this case, you will need to replace your brake pads and top up your brake fluid.

Bleeding may also be necessary from time to time.
