Why’s it called a BP-51?

BP: by-pass

51: interior diameter of the shock absorber

OME’s New suspension

This revolutionary suspension is the result of 4 years of intensive development by the engineers at Old Man Emu (OME).

The patented BP-51 shock absorber brings racing technology to everyday use. It gives an unprecedented performance on and off-road, combining comfort and control. These shock absorbers are fitted without modifying the vehicle thanks to a specific fitting kit for each vehicle application.

How does it work?

Usually, with classic twin-tube or mono-tube shock absorbers, when you want to stop your shock absorbers bottoming out, you reinforce the internal valve system. However, this gives a  suspension that can prove too hard.

The BP-51 shock absorber overcomes the problem with a system sensitive to the position of the piston and not the speed of the vehicle. It makes the ride soft on small shocks and becomes very hard when it is compressed or relaxed in extreme conditions. It’s called the Bypass system.

To adjust the BP-51 shock absorbers, nothing could be simpler, just turn the knobs in one direction or the other.

Revolutionary shock absorbers:

- Bypass technology: provides different behaviour at low and high speed,  avoids bottoming out: suitable for intensive off-roading.

- adjustment without dismantling to adjust as close as possible to driving conditions or personal preferences.

Technical details

  • 51mm inner diameter body.
  • aircraft grade anodized aluminium body.
  • Independent compression and rebound adjustment without dismantling the shock absorber.
  • automatic damping management according to the position of the piston, and not only in relation to its speed of movement.
