What is it?

It is either a bearing or a bush and it’s located in the centre of the crankshaft or flywheel shaft.  When the clutch is disengaged, the gearbox input shaft and the engine crankshaft turn at different speeds.

- There are different types of bearings: balls, rollers or needle bearings packed in grease. A defective spigot bearing or bush makes more noise when the clutch pedal is fully depressed and the clutch is fully disengaged.

-Bushes are made of brass and impregnated with lubrication.

Why replace it?

The function of the bearing or bush is to guide the input shaft of the gearbox. If it fails or seizes, it can cause damage ranging from vibrations to wear of the gearbox or clutch disc.

It’s recommended that the bearing or bush be replaced every time the clutch is replaced.
