Slow travel
Karin-Marijke and Coen gave up the rat race in 2003 for a life on the road. Since then they have been discovering the world in their Toyota Land Cruiser BJ45.
They are slow travelers averaging 50km a day. As they say, "To us, travel is not about covering distances, or about driving from A to B as fast as possible. Life on the road is about being in a place, not only to see it but also to feel it, hear it, smell it and taste its food; to connect with people and share their lives."
From 2003 to 2006, they were in Southeast Asia then they discovered South America from 2007 to 2015. In 2016, they shipped the Land cruiser to South Korea where they spent 7 months then it was onto Japan. They then took the ferry to Vladivostokin the spring of 2018 and now they are in Mongolia.
We have been following them since.
2024
April - Armenia and the Middle East
July - September 2021
Karin-Marijke and Coen have managed to cross the border, and are currently in Kyrgyzstan.
They plan to stay there for some time, to visit the country in-depth and complete their literary project!
May 2021
Karin Marijke has reached Coen, and together they're are returning to Europe, at they're own pace.
They are currently in Uzbekistan.
April 2021
Coen has gone to Kazakhstan to get their Toyota which they left parked up waiting to continue their trip.
He’s going to bring it back to Europe, while they wait to continue their journey when the health measures are lifted.
June 2020
Land cruising travellers!
Coen and Karin-Marijke returned home to the Netherlands because of the Covid-19 health crisis.
They've left their vehicle in Kazakhstan, where it's being well looked after. They're now patiently waiting to get back on the road and continue exploring the world, at their own pace, and of course aboard their magnificent BJ45!

Coen is the photographer, art director, driver, communication manager, mechanic, and cooks breakfast.
Karin-Marijke is the writer, planner, the financial director, managing director, warehouse manager, housekeeper, and cooks lunch and dinner.

Toyota Land Cruiser BJ45 with 450.000 kms on the clock looked after by Coen.
The journey
Their journey is not about ticking off countries, however for the next part of their adventure the idea is to travel through Russia, Mongolia and the Stans.
