Leaving for Africa without a return date aboard a Defender!
This magnificent project is the dream of two young women, Olivia and Charlie!
The project was born during the confinement and the need for freedom. The vehicle is "Joe", their Defender 110 entirely fitted out by them!
The goal is to "take our time on the road to discover as much as possible and meet as many people as possible on the way. Not planning too much in advance to let ourselves be guided by the adventure will make the journey even more beautiful and exciting! "
Their departure is scheduled for September 2021, with no fixed return date!

Their project
Olivia and Charlie had been dreaming of this trip for some time but everything accelerated during confinement.
Africa is their favourite continent, with a special attachment to Tanzania, a country which they have visited several times and where they have found a second family.
Together they bought a 4×4 Land Rover Defender with the aim of leaving for an indefinite time and crossing East Africa!
The goal? Morocco to South Africa taking their time to meet people and Olivia will be making videos and documentaries to show the different facets of Man around the world, to help people discover different cultures and talk about committed and responsible subjects.
Let's meet them
- Olivia is 26 and lives in Montpellier in the south of France. She has always been passionate about horses and it was when she wanted to immortalize their beauty that she started photography quite by accident around the age of 15. At 18, she left for her first solo backpacking trip. One month across Ireland! She studied journalism while continuing to work and travel.
- Charlie is 27, she’s a web editor specialised in cosmetics. After an experience in a large cosmetics group, she decided to set up on her own a year ago in order to be able to work and travel.
Itinerary
This is the initial itinerary but it will evolve naturally along the way by the events and encounters they make.
Olivia and Charlie have reviewed the beginning of their journey. Because of the continuing health crisis travelling to Egypt by road isn’t possible. So they’ve decided to start their long journey from the west, driving from Morocco to South Africa and then on to Egypt.

JOE is their land Rover Defender 110, 300 TDI from 1998, with 247,000 km on the clock
Entirely fitted out by Olivia and Charlie. They have redone all the electrical installations, fitted solar panels, installed a shower and redone the interior to make it a comfortable and welcoming home!
