Conquering the world, in 4x4!
Discover the world in 4x4, many of us dream of it but only a few take the plunge.
Davide and Anna Lena are making their dream come true. They’ve left everything, jobs and family for an adventure in distant lands, at their own pace and aboard a Defender 110 that they’ve fitted out for the journey.
The priority for them is getting off the main routes and following the tracks so that they can truly explore and experience the world. Their plan is to travel through a large part of Europe and North Africa.
They left in February 2022, for a year of adventures.

Davide (39) and Anna Lena (29) are an Italian-German couple who met in the UK.
- Before leaving his job and his Excel spreadsheets to become a full-time explorer, Davide was working for an automobile company in Hamburg and was responsible for their transmission supply chain for France, Spain and the United Kingdom.
- Anna Lena had been a nurse since finishing college and loved her job, but their free spirits finally got the better of them, and they decided to go on the adventure of a lifetime.
The route
Their original idea was to visit the Gobi desert, but while they were in Tunisia in February, Russia invaded Ukraine. So, change of plan, they thought about the Gulf region via Iran, but the current political situation and the visa costs led them to plan C: the Caucasus, then back to Europe followed by Morocco and Mauritania this winter.
The 3 colours for the 3 phases of their adventure:
- In red, from home to Switzerland, Italy, Tunisia, and back to southern Italy, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and back to Turkey.
- In blue, it is at this point that the second part of the journey begins, which will essentially bring them back to Italy. From there, after a short break, they will take the ferry from Genoa to Africa, to cross Morocco and Mauritania until the end of the year.
- In yellow, phase 3 is the return journey. They will cross Spain, France, Belgium and perhaps also the Netherlands.
Of course, this itinerary can change at any time.
Their vehicle
At the heart of their project is “Schorschi”, an original Land Rover Defender 110 Td4, with 134,000 km on the clock.
They’ve added a roof rack, an awning, supports for the sand plates on the side and a snorkel. The big change was the interior layout, which they did themselves during the first confinement.
They still have to modify the suspensions because they have noticed that in off-road driving they need more flexibility and a few more centimetres of clearance.
