Left everything but his 4x4!
That's what Tom Marriott, a young pilot from New Zealand, did!
With a passion for travelling and, above all, for 4x4s, he designed and built out his vehicle and quit his job as an airline pilot, to live his dream.
He's driving the Pan-American Highway from Ushuaïa, Argentina to Tuktoyaktuk Canada. It's the longest road in the world and he's doing it in a vehicle he is passionate about, a Defender 110!
He's been on the road since August 2022, and plans to reach his goal in Argentina in January 2024!

Let's meet him!
Tom is 28 and comes from New Zealand.
A former airline pilot, he decided to leave everything behind to realise his dream: to follow the Pan-American Highway in Jerry (Tom & Jerry), a 24-year-old South African Land Rover Defender 110.
After designing and building the vehicle's interior, he left his job in June 2022, put Jerry on a boat in Auckland, New Zealand, and met up with it again two months later in Seattle (USA). Then it was off to Tuktoyaktuk (Canada) to begin his journey to the south of Argentina. This trip is all about living your youth to the full and challenging yourself to grow as an individual.
Itinerary
In blue, is the sea route and in green is his overland adventure! Jerry is a left-hand-drive so Tom has to cut out a few Central American countries on his route.
Once he's finished in Ushuaia, he may go on to Australia, or back to New Zealand, or perhaps elsewhere - there's no rush!
The vehicle
The Land Rover Defender 110 is called Jerry, he's 24 years old, and started his life in South Africa!
After years of saving, Tom fitted out and restored his vehicle. The bulk of the work was carried out during the Covid confinement.
