Why fit a shower cubicle to your 4x4?

When you want to go off on your own, at some point you are going to need or want to take a shower. Up until now, we've gone to a campsite, but it's a shame to go just for that. Then we tried out a folding shower cubicle like the ones you find in camping accessories shops. Practical, of course, but it's just one more thing to pack into the 4×4. And as soon as there's a bit of wind, it gets tricky.

So we wanted to try something different. Digging around on Instagram and Youtube, we noticed a new type of cabin, which folds out like an awning and stays permanently on the roof rack. On paper, we liked it. We quickly looked up the brands and websites that sold them and decided to go for the Equip'addict version from Euro4x4parts.

The Equip'addict shower cubicle was fitted to a Toyota KDJ 95 that already had a roof rack, so we made brackets to fit it.

TOOLS NEEDED

To fit the Equip'addict shower cubicle to your 4x4, you need :

. 2 Spanners: Size 10 and 13

Note: the tools and materials needed to make the mounting brackets for the vehicle roof rack are not included here.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL

To give you an idea of the level of difficulty of our tutorials, we've graded them from 1 to 5.

Fitting the Equip'addict shower cubicle to a 4x4 is level 1.

Tutorial

1 - Once the order has been placed, the parcel arrives the next day. The product is complete: cover, stainless steel screws, tensioners, etc.

2 - Some parts are shared with other Equip'addict awnings. Like the fixing brackets included in the package.

3 - "Blank" test to find the final position for our Equip'addict shower cubicle.

4 - The position and height are fine, but the fixing brackets supplied are not going to be easy to adapt to our homemade gallery model.
They would fit other commercial models but the way we've designed ours we'll need some else.

5 - We didn't want to cut out the gallery, the fixing brackets or adapt the awning itself. So we decided to make new brackets that would fit our rack.

After a quick look around our garage, we selected pieces of 4 and 6-mm thick flat iron and 2.5 mm square tube.

6 - Once the brackets have been made, we applied a coat of zinc for protection and two coats of black paint for the finish.

7 - We then fixed the bracket to the gallery of our Equip'addict shower cubicle. It's the same technique with our homemade ones as the original brackets.

Place them at equal distances to distribute the stress and weight. Positioning is simple because the shower cubicle will adapt. The heads of the bolts will slide into the grooves on the support plate.

8 - The Equip'addict shower cubicle is fitted using the bolts supplied.

9 - Next, we checked that the fasteners were correctly positioned and tightened.

10 - Finished.

We lost a bit of time making the brackets, but installing the Equip'addict shower cubicle itself only took 10 minutes.
