4x4 Travel - Stef & Nico

Direction Vietnam in a 4x4!

Stef and Nico have a thirst for adventure and the unknown. To quench that thirst, there's nothing better than a 4x4. They’ve chosen a Mitsubishi L200, fitted with a cell

It was after a trip to Finland, that they had the idea of going further afield to Stef's native Vietnam.

The main objective is to discover the world, experience it, learn from it daily, experience change and renew oneself. They want to meet new people, learn about new cultures and have the adventure of a lifetime!

Scheduled departure from Saint Nazaire (44) on the 21st of April 2024, return date unknown!

Let's meet them!

  • Nicolas is 41 and has worked in retail including 5 years for Schmidt. He loves the countryside and can horse-ride. Who knows it could come in handy!

  • Stéphanie is 50 and is originally from Vietnam. She was born in Hô-Chi-Minh-Ville and arrived in France at the age of 12. She owned a restaurant and then had a market stand selling Vietnamese food.

The Route

The idea is to start in Switzerland, then head to the south-eastern Mediterranean.

Turkey, and then the Middle East, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Then on to Vietnam. For the moment they haven’t decided which route to take, either by India or Mongolia.

Their vehicle

After studying other 4x4 travellers, their needs and the routes they took, they chose a pick-up. They have a '97 Mitsubishi L200  it’s easy to repair as it does have electronics. Their vehicle is the heart of the trip, it’s not only their means of transport, it's fitted with a Tipi 4x4 cell so it’s also their home.

The vehicle has 260,000 km on the clock and looks like it’s been regularly serviced.

For the basic mechanics, Nico will be able to get by with the help of tutorials. He recently changed the front torsion bars, suspension and shock absorbers, and has changed the gearbox and engine oil.

Stef and Nico have made a large storage box behind the cab and on the gallery, they have an aluminium box, the de-icing plates, the kitesurfing equipment, a shovel, etc.

They also changed the electrical system, replacing the charger, booster and MPPT to switch to lithium batteries.
