Description

When you press the brake pedal, your brake caliper is pressurized by the brake fluid. This action causes the piston(s) within it to push the brake pads against the brake disc, slowing down your vehicle.

When should you replace a brake caliper?

A caliper might not need replacing if you clean it thoroughly after, say, a muddy off-road trip. It's also crucial to check the wear on the brake pads to prevent the caliper pistons from extending too far out of their housing. So, in theory, if you regularly maintain your braking system, you shouldn't need to change a brake caliper.

However, it is possible to refurbish the caliper by replacing one or more of its components, such as the slider, seal, piston, guide boot, bleed screw, or caliper bracket.
