Much like any other working mechanical system, the oil in your 4x4's automatic transmission picks up metallic particles over time, which can affect its lubricating qualities. That’s why it’s just as important to change the oil in an automatic gearbox as it is in a manual one. However, there's an extra step with automatic transmissions: they have an oil filter that should also be replaced when you do the oil change. Taking care of this not only keeps everything running smoothly but can also greatly extend the life of your transmission.
