4x4 Travel - Aventura Solidaria África

An incomparable 4x4 trip, a unique continent, an incredible adventurer!

This isn’t like any other 4x4  trip to Africa.

The adventurer, Jaime Sartorius, will be embarking us on an unparalleled adventure!

Jaime has already traveled around the world by 4x4, bicycle, motorbike, boat, and even on foot with a stick! For him, to travel you just need time, the rest is incidental.

His latest project consists of traveling through 10 countries in Africa, to deliver aid and collaborate with 10 NGOs. For this trip, he’s chosen a Toyota Hilux which he prepared himself.

The adventure begins in Chile, and we will be able to follow Jaime’s experience for a year. Given his background, the trip promises to be exciting!

The departure is scheduled for 2022, and we are already looking forward to leaving!

Let's meet him

At the age of 25, Jaime Sartorius decided to leave on his own to tour the world in a 4x4; he traveled for over two years in his Land Cruiser HDJ80.

It was an experience that changed him since then one thing is clear: for him the freedom of traveling in a 4x4 is essential!

His story

In 2008, he decided to give up everything, he left his communication company and became the owner of a Toyota Land Cruiser. He drove across Europe to Russia, and then  India via Central Asia, and of course, Jaime chose the most difficult and hostile route.

In Nepal, he was forced to turn back, as he couldn’t cross China. He went back to India and embarked with his vehicle on a boat, bound for Alaska. When he arrived, the vehicle was requisitioned and sent back to India. So Jaime got a motorbike and rode it to Patagonia!

Then, he decided to send the motorbike to Europe, and he flew to India to pick up his 4x4! On the way back to Spain, he lost his only credit card and managed to travel with barely 70 US dollars. This proves as he puts it, that to travel you simply need time, money is secondary.

Next, it was South America, and Peru, where he developed a project in Equatorial Guinea which consisted of creating a school in collaboration with a Spanish foundation. He then traveled to South Africa, and on foot and with a stick as company, he crossed several countries and met tribes which had hardly ever seen a white man! Once arrived at his destination, he built and organized the school where he taught and shared his values.

What he’s learnt from his travels is that people are naturally good!

The project - Why Africa?

Jaime has grown to love Africa, he’s well aware that it is the continent that suffers the most from deficiencies in the world.

This project represents for him the opportunity to return and give back something to the continent he loves so much!

His objective is to carry out 10 solidarity activities in 10 different countries, over a year.

He’s preparing his vehicle in Chile, where he’s currently living. It’s with this vehicle that he will travel through these 10 countries to help the NGOs on site.

The NGOs all have different activities:

  • Education
  • Health assistance
  • Support for pregnant women
  • Help albinism
  • Fight against malnutrition
  • Promote access to water, etc.

All this work will be filmed and photographed by professionals.

Itinerary

The final itinerary is being prepared.

Everything will depend on the port of entry into Africa, and the NGOs contacted to film the documentaries.

In the meantime, Jaime is obviously looking for the most complicated roads and tracks to take!

Vehicle preparation

Jaime wanted to prepare his vehicle himself, according to his priorities.

First of all, the choice of a 4x4 was clear and without appeal.

The difference between his new preparation and his previous 4x4 (HDJ80) is that Jaime needs to have space to be able to rest, work and read without it necessarily being in the open air.

He spent over a year looking for his 4x4, and finally chose a 2013 Toyota Hilux 4x4 3.0D.

The vehicle is equipped with a double cabin, and an ultra-light Four Wheel Camper flatbed cell. Not wishing to give up a certain comfort, he wanted his 4x4 to be the most up-to-date  possible but with the least electronics, and above all a good off-roader. In short, robust and comfortable.

With the collaboration of the Braid rim factory, he installed the Full Race T Dakar 7x16 model with Offset 0. The standard -30mm on the  rear wheel axle has been widened by 6 centimeters. The tyres are  BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO2 size 265 / 75-16 (instead of the 70 profile of standard tires).

Engine: He’s installed a NTDD control unit that increases the power from 171hp to 205hp and a torque of 343Nm to 412Nm.

He’s also added a Racor 500FG fuel pre-filter with 10-micron filter to separate the water from the diesel.

Suspension: Jaime has gone for something tried and tested, simple and reliable.

  • Front: Old Man Emu + 5cm with reinforced springs. Adjustable and greasable upper control arms.
  • At the back: Old Man Emu + 5cm with reinforced leaf springs for + 600Kg load capacity and pneumatic suspension.
