Chipping away at the fuel problem!

4x4 Travel - Go My Oil

Recycling our waste is possible!

Maxime and Arthur, students at the university of Bordeaux, are deeply concerned by the exhaustible resources of the planet.

They asked themselves the following question: Is it possible to run a car on cooking oil?

To answer this question they are going to travel over 6000 kilometres across the British Isles. The aim is to show the viability of bio fuel over long distances, and demonstrate that it is possible to recycle cooking oil. They plan to leave on the 15th June 2015!

News!

August 2015

"Its at the Euro Tunnel, that the GO MY Oil adventure ends. In a month, we travelled no less than 5.045kms through three countries, Ireland, Scotland and England, 4.100kms exclusively with recycled cooking oil.

We had no major mechanical failure during the journey, despite the inhospitable temperatures of Northern Ireland and Scotland that put our system to heat the oil to the test.

Even though we had no problems, our Patrol is currently being checked out to make sure that using cooking oil hasn’t damaged any internal parts of the catalytic converter."

Our travelers are on their way! They already run on cooking oil, and it is going prettywell.

Heres their latest news. (21-07-15):

" So far everything is going well, the 4x4 has had no serious mechanical problems running on cooking oil heated to 70 ° C (7 times the outdoor temperature here in Scotland!).

In terms of measurements, they vary greatly depending on our geographic position. The altitude, humidity and temperature are factors that affect the quality of the engine’s combustion. The oil produces less CO and CO2 than diesel. However it seems that the particles are more important with the cooking oil, given the black cloud produced by each acceleration."

Who?

They are two engineering students and adventurers, who have taken on the challenge of changing people’s opinion towards using bio fuels!

How?

In a 4x4 of course! A long based Patrol GR Y61.

Why?

When Rudolf Diesel presented for the first time in 1900 the diesel engine, it was also named the "motor oil". And for good reason: it ran on vegetable oil!

Given the large amount of waste produced by the food industry and as one answer to the problem of greenhouse gas emissions and the limited oil resources, Maxime and Arthur want to show that cooking oil can be reused to run cars. (source:gomyoil.wordpress.com)

Where?

Ireland, Scotland and England. Starting in Rosselare, Ireland and finishing in Folkestone, England.

Throughout their journey they will be visiting universities and meeting people involved in the research, development and production of Bio fuels.
